Many sites, including, match.com will offer a free browse before you join in case you are skeptical in any way.

How do you go about finding a girlfriend online? A good, honest profile picture is a must. It might be tempting to put a image of a model or body builder up there but that will lead to potential problems later. Also, be honest. Something that woman hate the most is dishonest and untruthful people. Don’t be afraid to be yourself on your profile; you should list what interests you, what music you like, books you read etc… Just everything about yourself.

Then comes the dreading first contact. Again, just be honest. You wouldn’t go up to a girl in a bar and come off with a cheesy chat up line, so why do it in a message?
